Itineraries
Day 1
Shimla- Bawta (195km, 8-9 hrs)
Rupin Pass Trek kicks off in Bawta, a serene Himalayan village nestled in the mountains. The drive from Shimla is long yet scenic, winding through lush valleys and rivers. If you've booked transport with us, our team picks you up at Shimla Bus Stand and heads straight to this charming base.
Leaving Shimla, the route climbs through rugged mountain terrain. You'll pass Rohru, a quaint town on the Pabbar River's banks—your last chance for an ATM before the trek. From there, the road forks: one path to Janglik for Buran Ghati Pass Trek, the other to Bawta for yours.
Bawta captivates with its traditional Kath-kuni wooden houses, built from fragrant deodar cedar. These stunning structures offer cozy, well-insulated interiors perfect for chilly nights, blending beauty with warmth.
Step outside at night to gaze at Bawta's star-studded sky. The tranquil, twinkling canopy creates a magical prelude to a restful sleep.
Day 2
Bawta to Jakha (Approx 4hrs Trek)
Kicking off from Bawta, your trek to Jakha weaves along dirt tracks and rugged paths into the heart of Jiskun, a sleepy Himalayan hamlet alive with those classic wooden homes that scream mountain heritage.
Just beyond, the real magic hits: crystal-clear streams trickling right beside the trail, with a rustic wooden bridge inviting you across—it's the kind of simple beauty that sticks with you.
Then comes the grind—a sharp uphill push to Jakha, the last village and the highest perch on this journey. Nicknamed the "Hanging Village," it clings to a dizzying slope, houses piled like nature's own puzzle, perfectly fused into the rocky peaks.
Crash at a welcoming homestay, all snug and toasty after the effort. As dusk falls, stretch your legs with an easy stroll to Dhara Village and its ancient Dhara Devta shrine—locals swear by this guardian spirit, giving you a raw peek into their secluded world. Unwind there, fueled up for whatever's next.
Day 3
Jakha to Saruwas Thatch (Approx 7-8 hrs)
Today from Jakha, you weave past cozy wooden homes, a kids' playground, and patchwork farmlands. The opening stretch bites with a steep climb, but it soon eases into a gentle uphill rhythm. Keep an eye out for that ancient wooden house, battered by decades of wind and weather yet standing defiant—it's a photo magnet that begs for a quick stop.
Deeper in, a thick cedar-fir forest envelops you, its cool canopy turning the hike into pure bliss amid crisp mountain air.
Emerging from the woods, you hit Udaknal, then cross a rugged wooden bridge over the roaring Rupin River—a thrill with those waters churning below. The trail hugs the riverbank after, sparkling views keeping you hooked.
Spot those humble tea shacks and dhabas for hot chai and hearty local bites—prime pit-stop fuel. Natural spring showers cascade nearby, while Buransh Kandi's rhododendron grove adds flair (fiery red blooms if you're lucky with timing). Finally, Saruwas Thatch unfolds: a sprawling, grassy meadow cradled by mountains and the nearby river—your serene camp oasis after a solid day's push.
Day 4
Saruwas Thatch to Dandreyash Thatch (Approx 2hrs)
Today's hop to Dandreyash Thatch is a breezy, short stroll that pays off big time. This gem of a campsite ranks among the trek's stunners, with its vast meadow stretching out and landscapes shifting into postcard perfection. But the real showstopper? Those epic Upper and Lower Rupin Waterfalls you've been chasing.
The Upper one thunders down from insane heights, smashing against rocks in a misty roar—sunlight often sparks rainbows right in the spray. Lower down, its gentler twin spills in silky cascades, threading silver through the valley like nature's own artwork. It's the kind of view that etches into your memory.
Kick back at camp after, soaking it all in.
Day 5
Dandreyash Thatch to Upper Waterfall (Approx 3-4 hrs)
Short but savage: today's push to Upper Waterfall packs excitement and grit into every step. It opens easy and flat, loosening up your legs before the beast near Lower Rupin Waterfall kicks in—steep, relentless, no mercy.
Hugging the Upper Falls' edge, you're blasted by crashing waters, cool mist kissing your face amid narrow, rocky paths that demand focus (watch those loose stones!).
Climb higher, and bam—the payoff. Glance back at tiny Dandreyash Thatch nestled in the green below, valley sprawling endless with streams slicing through jagged peaks. The Himalayas hit you full force here, humbling and huge.
Topping out at Upper Waterfall feels epic. Gaze at the whole drama: snaking trails, waterfalls spilling wild, clouds teasing summits. Pause, breathe it in—this is trek gold.
Camp night's unreal: high-altitude perch amid sheer cliffs, stars exploding overhead. Chill dives deep as darkness swallows everything; huddle for stories and hot food, waterfall's roar the soundtrack.
In your tent, bundled against the bite, wind whispers and water thunders lull you. Totally off-grid, yet woven into the mountains' soul.
Day 6
Upper Waterfall to Ronti Gad via Rupin Pass (Approx 10-11 hrs)
Summit fever hits today: crossing Rupin Pass, the trek's crowning glory. Dawn cracks early at Upper Waterfall Camp, launching into a brutal steep haul over rocks, ice slicks, and razor ridges—step smart, stay sharp on the dicey bits.
Hit Rattapheri, that wide-open breather, fueling up for the gut-check to Rupin Gully—a vise-tight slot between sheer walls, slick with ice and scree. Hands on rock, wind screaming through, it's raw adventure; claw out the other side to claim the pass.
Rupin Pass delivers: endless Himachal peaks sprawling free. Summer greens it up, maybe spot shepherds herding flocks in alpine meadows.
No downtime yet—the plunge to Ronti Gad is a knee-shredder, rapid drop over snow, scree, and rough ground. Kinnaur Kailash peeks out, turning the views obscene.
Finally, Ronti Gad's open meadow welcomes you—pure calm after chaos. Watch sunset paint the sky orange, chill rush in, then hunker for starry feasts and a heart full of win.
Day 7
Ronti Gad to Sangla & Drive to Shimla (Approx 15 hrs)
Ease into the finale with a long, flowing descent from Ronti Gad to Sangla Kanda's lush alpine meadows. Rolling greens roll by as altitude drops, air thickens, and the world turns vibrantly alive.
Shepherd shacks, grazing herds, and terraced patches signal life's return—legs thank you for the gentler grade, perfect for savoring the shift.
Hours in, conifers frame your entry to Sangla, Kinnaur's gem hugging the Baspa River. Apple groves, carved wooden homes, and warm Kinnauri vibes nestle under towering peaks—ideal trek closer.
Wander, chat with locals, or just breathe easy; the high-country grind fades into sweet accomplishment.
Dirve to Shimla
No time wasted: pile into the vehicle for the epic haul back to Shimla, twisting through hairpin mountain roads, plunging valleys, and storybook Himachali villages. It's prime time to replay the highs—Rupin Pass glory, star-drenched camps, raw Himalayan magic.
Shimla marks the finish line, but those indelible moments? They're yours for life.
